For a baseball fan, living in Phoenix is Nirvana. You have the opportunity to see 15 Major League Baseball teams from both the American and National leagues during two months of Cactus League spring training. When it’s time to start the season, fourteen teams go home, but the Arizona Diamondbacks move downtown to Chase Field to begin regular season play. Six months of baseball. Woohoo! When it’s 115 degrees outside, you can be inside watching the D’backs at a comfortable 72 degrees. Once the MLB season wraps up, the Arizona Fall League begins. (News Flash: I just found out MLB is going to change a few things this year, including which players can be sent to the AFL by the parent clubs, and when to start the season.) For what it’s worth, I thought the league was excellent last year, so I’ll wait and see how the changes work out. The AFL is two more months of baseball. So, for about ten months every year, and never having to drive more than an hour to any ballpark, you’ve got great sports entertainment, hot dogs, and beer. What more could a baseball fan want?
