C.J. Box and T. Jefferson Parker talked about their new books in front of a full house last night at The Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale.
Box’s book, The Bitterroots, presents former police officer Cassie Dewell, now a private investigator, in the fourth book of the series. Cassie travels to Montana when an old friend asks her to help exonerate a man accused of assaulting a young girl from an influential family. Other books in the series are The Highway, Badlands, and Paradise Valley.
Parker’s book, The Last Good Guy, returns private investigator Roland Ford. The P.I. uncovers a dark conspiracy as he searches for a missing teenager. The series debuted in 2017 in The Room of White Fire, followed by Swift Vengeance in 2018.
At one point, the authors were talking about the fishing trips they had been on together. The conversation went back and forth—who goes, where, how many trips, what they eat, etc.—and led to what I think was the funniest moment of the night. I’ll paraphrase, but during the discussion, Box said, “In Wyoming, the definition of a vegetarian is someone who only eats meat once a day.”
