Todd’s book, This Side of Night, is the story of a Mexican cartel border war and its spillover into the Big Bend region of Texas, based loosely on the kidnapping and disappearance of 43 male students from a teacher’s college in Iguala, Mexico, in 2014. The cartel, a young sheriff and his deputies, and the DEA all play a role.

David’s book, Layover, asks a provocative question. What happens when a man meets a beautiful woman in an airport, falls for her, and then discovers she is a missing person just after she disappears into the crowd to catch her flight?
