“A nod to Huckleberry Finn, Homer, and Charles Dickens,” is how William Kent Krueger described his newest book, This Tender Land, at The Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale on September 5. Krueger told a large crowd he had always wanted to write a modern version of Huckleberry Finn, and he finally did. His 2013 standalone, Ordinary Grace, won an Edgar Award for Best Novel, and I thought it was one of the most moving books I have ever read. I imagine This Tender Land will also be an extraordinary read.
