Tuesday evening, November 5, was a big night for Barbara Peters and The Poisoned Pen bookstore in Scottsdale. Seven authors signed their new books. The evening began with Michael Stanley (two authors, Michael Sears and Stanley Trollip) discussing Shoot the Bastards, a story that addresses rhino poaching and the rhino-horn market in Africa, wrapped around the disappearance of an investigative journalist’s friend and colleague. Tim Maleeny provided a peek into his latest book, Boxing the Octopus, about an armored car driving off a San Francisco pier. The story gets weird when the vehicle is raised. The driver and all the money…gone.
The evening concluded with four Australian authors – Sulari Gentill (A Murder Unmentioned), Robert Gott (The Holiday Murders), Jock Serong (Preservation), and Emma Viskic (And Fire Came Down) – talking about their books and the mystery scene down under. Sulari, Robert, and Jock write from the perspective of Australian historical fiction. Emma’s book looks at a deaf man struggling to find a young woman’s killer.
It was an excellent evening.
